In the digital age, technological proficiency is increasingly becoming a necessity, particularly in the fields of education and career development. Google for Education provides tools that are essential for 21st-century teaching and learning, equipping educators and learners with the means to collaborate, create, and innovate. The KA-HUSAY-AN Google Training and Certification Program is designed to provide Filipino youth and teachers with essential digital skills, empowering them to effectively use Google tools in educational and professional settings.

The KA-HUSAY-AN Program aims to address the digital skills gap among educators and learners, particularly in underserved communities, by providing training that leads to Google Educator Level 1 Certification. With this certification, participants will be able to demonstrate proficiency in Google Workspace tools, which are vital for modern classroom and workplace environments.

OBJECTIVES

The KA-HUSAY-AN Google Training and Certification Program seeks to:

Provide foundational skills in using Google Workspace tools, such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, and Drive.
Equip young teachers and in- and out-of-school youth with the knowledge and skills to integrate Google tools into their daily lives, promoting more efficient teaching methods and enhanced learning experiences.
Encourage participants to explore various Google tools and applications independently, fostering a culture of lifelong learning and professional development.
Ensure that participants have the opportunity to become Google Certified Educators Level 1, a certification that is recognized globally, and enhance their employability.

The training on Google Workspace encompasses various themes that aim to enhance digital literacy, improve productivity, and foster collaboration among users.

1. Digital Literacy and Competency

Training participants on the fundamental features and functionalities of Google Workspace applications, such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Classroom, enables them to confidently navigate and utilize these tools.
Encouraging users to analyze and evaluate information, particularly when using tools like Google Search and Forms for data collection and analysis.

2. Collaboration and Communication

Google Workspace’s strength lies in its ability to facilitate real-time collaboration among users. Training emphasizes how to work together on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations seamlessly, regardless of location.
Participants learn to use tools like Google Meet and Gmail to enhance communication within teams and classrooms, promoting clarity and efficiency in messaging.

3. Organization and Productivity

Participants explore features like Google Calendar to schedule events, manage tasks, and set reminders, promoting better time management skills.
Emphasizing the importance of organizing files and folders in Google Drive to ensure easy access and efficient collaboration. This includes best practices for naming conventions and sharing settings.

Training encourages users to leverage Google Slides for dynamic and visually appealing presentations, fostering creativity in how information is shared and communicated.
Participants are encouraged to think creatively about how to use Google tools to solve problems or improve processes in their educational or professional environments.

Learning Experience Designer

Ms. Micah Joy L. Mitra, also known as Ma’am MJ. Ma’am MJ is a Teacher III at the Department of Education. Her dedication to education is further demonstrated by her various recognitions and certifications related to digital technologies for teachers, reflecting a passion for creating impactful and innovative learning experiences. Through her continuous learning and integration of advanced educational technologies, Ma’am MJ strives to foster an engaging and dynamic classroom environment. Ma’am MJ is also a Google Certified Educator for Level 1 and Level 2 and the leader of the Google Educator Group Quezon Province.

IMPACT

A series of Google training sessions has been conducted on weekends through synchronous and asynchronous modalities (teleconferencing and live-streaming platforms) to cater to the needs and availability of in-school and out-of-school youth, as well as young educators. Participants who passed the assessments were given free vouchers to take the certification exam and became Google Certified Educators (Level 1).
